With the annual "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" walk set for Oct. 17 in Clove Lakes Park, the Staten Island Region of the American Cancer Society will host a kickoff campaign breakfast: Aug. 19 in the Staten, West Brighton.
During the breakfast, community leaders will learn the latest breast-cancer prevention news and hear success stories from breast-cancer.
survivors. They will also learn ways in which businesses and organizations can play an integral role in fighting the life- threatening disease.
As the Society's signature event, "Making Strides Against Cancer" provides an opportunity for a celebration of breast-cancer survivors. It also offers an opportunity to raise funds for breast-cancer programs, including early detection, education, research and services that benefit Staten Island patients and their families.
On Oct. 17, over 3,500 individuals will meet in Clove Lakes Park to participate in the walk. Registration begins at 9:15 a.m. and the official start is at 11 a.m.
The event's honorary chairs include Dr. Janet Nor- ton, Dr. Heather McMullen, Dr. Carolyn Raia, Dr. Maria Fodera and Dr. Tomasine Fodera, proactive advocates of all issues involving breast health.
