Honorees are Dr. Maria Fodera, Dr. Tomasine Fodera, Dr. Richard Guarasci and Dr. Daniel Megna.
Dr. Maria Elena Fodera is a general and vascular surgeon with attending surgical privileges at Richmond University Medical Center and Staten Island University Hospital (SIUH). She is also a consulting vascular and general surgical attending physician at Eger Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Egbertiville.
Dr. Tomasine Fodera is and attending surgeon at SIUH, Victory Memorial Hospital, and Richmond University Medical Center.
Together the sisters, Drs. Maria and Tomasine Fodera have been chairwomen for the ACS signature event, "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer," raising funds for breast cancer research, education and patient services. They are also members of ACS board of advisors.
Dr. Richard Guarasci is president of Wagner College, where he founded the Wagner Plan for Practical Liberal Arts. He is commited to the success of the ACS event, Relay for Life, which takes place each year on the Wagner campus.
Dr. Daniel Megna, a practicing gastroenterologist with a private practice in New Dorp, where he has been serving the borough's residents for almost four decades. Dr. Megna is an associate clinical professor of medicine at State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn, and attending physician at SIUH. Dr. Megna and his wife Joanne, have been tireless volunteers for the Staten Island Region of ACS for many years.
Dr. Joseph Motta and his wife, are co-chairing the event. Dr. Motta is the director of the division of urology and urologic survey at Richmond University Medical Center and president of the Richmond County Medical Society. They live in Pleasant Plains with their three children.
